Staff development

Fine Point Communication improves your staff’s written English through custom-designed group workshops and one-on-one coaching. We improve the writer, not just the documents.

Workshops

Fine Point Communication will design workshops for your staff, customizing the content to reflect the kind of writing they do and their current level of English proficiency. Each workshop has three components:

  1. rules of grammar, clarifying the difference between absolute grammar rules and corporate style choices;
  2. common errors in written English, especially mistakes commonly made by writers whose first language is not English;
  3. analysis and editing of text supplied by participants.

The workshop is not a beginner’s course in English grammar, but provides real-world writing advice. It considers the problems of grammar, usage, style, and punctuation in everyday written English used in business and communications, and offers practical solutions.

The workshop can be arranged in half-day, full-day, and multiple-day formats, as well as regularly scheduled workshops, e.g. monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly.

One-on-one coaching

We coach writers using a face-to-face educative edit. In it, we comb through an example of the participant’s writing, examining word choices, analysing grammatical errors, and identifying subtle and not-so-subtle faults.

We utilise their strengths and strengthen their weaknesses, and guide them in evaluating their writing analytically. Additionally, participants are coached in the art of finding the right tone, style, and voice for their work.

We create or improve text in a wide range of applications.
